Last Wednesday, Maltese MEP Roberta Metsola was nominated by The European People’s Party (EPP) to serve as vice-president of European Parliament.
The current vice-president Mairead McGuinness became European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union last month leaving the position vacant. Elections for the position will be held in this coming November.
Metsola who has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2013, tweeted that she was proud of the nomination. “For a girl from an island in the middle of the Mediterranean, this is a big moment. Thank you EPPGroup, I will not let you down,” she wrote.
